Lol you started bitching at the bank in front of all the loyal customers who have been given 0% interest rate (and the payments are still lower than the competition, even after doubling). They are fiercely loyal customers that cannot fathom all the "pissing and moaning". I think it is because none of us can understand your perspective. We found a great value in playon and some of these scripts.
If you would like a plausible answer as to why they charge now for scripts that were free, try this one on for size: Most people run alpha/beta testing for free to work out the bugs and sometimes even build a customer base before charging for a new program. Perhaps they offer these scripts for free until the bugs are worked out? Just a theory.... It doesn't matter to the rest of us because we buy the ones that seem worth it and don't bother worrying with the rest.... Not sure why you care about those prices if you are cancelling.
Pro tip: never expect live feeds to be reliable unless the maintainer is also the one streaming the upload feeds. All of the ones I have looked into just pulled from the same handful of sites which are unreliable. On the other hand, if you want commercial free tv shows and movies on demand, the scripts are much more reliable. I saved 50 dollars a month by downgrading to basic cable (for the reliable network stations) and streaming everything else on demand. I am immensely happy with the value.
Pay more for your reliable cable if you like, but there's no reason to bash the developers for asking a measly pittance for their time before you go. You bashed the devs, you bashed some of their scripts, and you expected people to treat you with some professional manner because you called it constructive criticism? You do realize that most of us responding are customers and not developers right? He said you were young because you are acting terribly immature. He wasn't the only one thinking it. We don't care how many scripts you think are not worth the price, which ones have had their prices increased and why, what you think about roller coasters, or that the scripts don't work as well as cable. We all found scripts that we appreciate and ignored those we deemed unworthy or redundant. Don't pay for them and quit bitching to the people that actually appreciate this site and its developers. Maybe someone somewhere actually likes watching rusty rides.... Newsflash: They only get money from people interested in the scripts they are charging for. If you aren't interested in a script, STFU and don't buy it! It's that simple.
P.S. You didn't have anything of substance to say when you made the initial post, only pissing and moaning. And you didn't actually pose any simple question so much as your negative and sarcastic feedback on the pricing of the scripts.
Pop quiz hot shot: Do you think your bills have somehow increased because some of the script prices have increased? Answer: You do not have to buy anything not worth the money to you and they are not monthly fees but ONE TIME fees. You pay one time if you want to buy these things and you don't "keep paying for it", so your ana.logy is crap. It's more like going to the car lot and noticing that a car price has doubled and complaining to the salesmen and other customers on the car lot. Either the car is worth buying at that new price or it isn't and nobody wants to hear the disgruntled customer complain about rising prices and how the car is now not worth owning.

You say I got legitimate answers. Lets examine some of them, shall we?
djjester claims for $2.00 I get a "lifetime upkeep of what I provide" Who's lifetime? I wonder if folks that had "moveshare" were under the belief it too was "lifetime upkeep"?
Ericthered replied "Sometimes the author may not realize the time involved in maintaining such a script. In order to justify the expense of their time they may decide they would like to be compensated for it". So, apparently these "authors" took the time to learn script, develope the script, but have no clue whatsoever how much maintenence is involved?. Good one.
enchantingsylph replied with "It's all about what the scripts are worth to you". How do I know what the script is worth to me if I don't buy it? How do I know if I DO buy it, it will even work? You folks here haven't exactly blown me over with confidence.
daflyboys (my personal favorite here) said "mauiman.... your expectations going into this are all wrong". and then added "These scripts are a conduit to something else that is already available out there, not the product themselves. That's where your perception is very much out of whack". Perusing the Play-On website
http://www.playon.tv/content-channels
under the tab "Whats on Play-On" I see a ton of "channels" listed. Many of the ones you get on cable, actually. But in almost no case can you actually watch the "channel". ESPN 3 is an exception. You merely get access to the channels on-line web site which is NOT the same as the live channel. No where on the Play On site does it make that distinction, from what I see. So my "perception" is what I read on the Play On site. Don't shoot the messenger.
The best comment of all though was "No one has a gun to your head forcing you to buy scripts" I can think of no better way to blow a perfectly presented opportunity to sell me on your product, but you come back with "no one has a gun to your head".
Nope, and I will never buy a script after this thread, so aloha.

I'm not a script author so I'm not trying to sell you on anything. As for the question of how do you know if a script is worth the money unless you buy it? I answered that. Read comments and/or ask for user feedback on the forums. It's not hard to say 'Hey, how well does *insert pay script name here* work for everyone that uses it? Is it worth the small fee the author is asking?'.

It's called research. I read the support forum for each script, read the download pages in their entirety, read the reviews, considered the websites included in the scripts, visited the websites I wasn't familiar with and checked out how much content they offered, tried out very many of the free scripts, and realized very quickly that there were several must-haves. If you have no particular fascination with rusty rides, then don't pay for the script. If you think you might be interested, research. You could have went so far as to even ask questions in the forum for any particular script you were considering instead of ranting here about all of them at the same time. If you are too lazy to figure it out, then playon likely has no monetary value to you and you probably should go with that gut instinct and cancel.

wow really?! this thread is still active? seriously!?..... Maui really! you seem like the type of person that likes to bitch! just to be heard your not by chance a politician are you?...all joking aside..bottom line if you have no interest what so ever in a script that's all fine and dandy...you don't have to like rusty rides or 56 different flavors of wrestling, whatever you choose to view is your personal right and no one can force you to see otherwise...maybe you would like me to author a script to something more along your lines of viewing pleasure say?... oh i don't know...Barney,Romper Room,Captain Kangaroo or any of the other myriad of toddler based programing available on today's cable systems?.. it would go hand in hand with the intellect you appear to be showing in this thread...this is a place for us to gather and promote our works and help other people enjoy play-on it is not a place to come to bitch and troll a forum page because we have nothing better to do with our time.. if i was a betting man and my odds were good I'm betting your here for the latter of the two.... just my guess anyway.. oh and on a side note please don't message me.. I'm hard at work authoring that script you requested for Sesame Street! .....

Once again - late to the party, but I too am surprised that this is on page 2.. yet curious if we can really get to page 3 Several devs have already responded including myself.. but for you, i will give you another response because I really sense that you are clueless when it comes to how playon scripts are developed and maintained.
"So, apparently these "authors" took the time to learn script, develope the script, but have no clue whatsoever how much maintenence is involved?. Good one."
This is when I confirmed that you are really in the dark. $2.99 for m2k. Let me tell you that this script started with version 1.0.0. Each time the script breaks due to changes to the website (aka completely out of my control), I update the counter by 1 -> so 1.0.1 is the first update, and 1.0.2 is the second etc. We are currently on version 1.5.3, which means that after initially releasing the 2500+ lines of code, I have had to change this code at least 53 times since then to keep it from completely shutting down. For a one time fee of 2.99, I really don't want to hear any complaint about the pricing. I had no idea that I would be shooting 53 (and counting) separate updates to this script when I started. How would I know that up front?
"lifetime upkeep of what I provide" Who's lifetime?
A lifetime is defined by the lifetime of the site/host. Clearly without the sites providing content, we have no scripts.
"Perusing the Play-On website"
This is probably something else that is needing to be mentioned again; we do not work for playon. There is very limited support from playon for individual script writers - so that line only applies to what they have released for free; not to anything a 3rd party dev is releasing.
I too think that your expectations are too high, mainly because you don't understand how the scripts/plugins work. I rarely make this recommendation - but I think you should turn off your playon subscription and go back to cable, where you will find the stability (in both service and pricing) that you are looking for. I'd prefer that you didnt buy any other scripts as well, because you will just be disappointed at some point if you do so (based on all of your posts).
As for me- I'm going to go enjoy a movie

No where on the Play On site does it make that distinction, from what I see.
You obviously weren't interested in knowing or you would have looked at the frequently asked questions on the site.
Playon's FAQ has the following:
What is PlayOn?
PlayOn is software that you install on your Windows PC. It allows you to use your Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iPhone, Android phone or another supported device to access movies and shows from content providers like Hulu, Netflix, Comedy Central, CBS, YouTube, MLB.tv, your personal media, and many more. PlayOn is both browser and media server software, built into one. It browses content from various online providers, and displays that content directly on your TV, iPhone or Android phone.
--Reading the above it is clear that it streams web content to your TV/device.
What guarantees do you offer?
PlayOn software enables browsing of content provider websites that may not have a direct affiliation with MediaMall Technologies. Although we work tirelessly to ensure continued PlayOn compatibility with all current and future supported services, MediaMall cannot guarantee such support in any way. We can however guarantee that we will do our absolute best to reinstate service as quickly as possible in the event of any service outage or technical failure within PlayOn.
--If Playon states in their FAQ that it can't guarantee that their scripts will always work (because the content provided via the web may change at any time) how do you expect third party developers to guarantee that everything they write scripts for will always work. The web content doesn't belong to the script writers and they have no control over any of it.
Do you have partnerships with all the content providers?
Some, but not all. We don't require partnerships, but we do like to have them! PlayOn is fundamentally just a web browser, exactly like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or Safari. And in the same way that Microsoft, Mozilla, Google and Apple don't necessarily have relationships with the websites they support through their browsers, neither does PlayOn. In fact, PlayOn is actually a customized version of the Internet Explorer engine.
--The free trial and reading just a few of the FAQs should have made it clear that Playon is just a browser that trans-codes the web content for consumption by your device.
@mauiman wrote:
So my "perception" is what I read on the Play On site. Don't shoot the messenger.
--So your perception was due to ignorance and a lack of actually looking for the answers. By now you should have realized that your assumptions and lunatic comparisons such as your comparison of a script fee to a car payment are completely without merit.

I want to thank all the devs for their continued work on their scripts, even if I haven't bought one from some members of the PlayON development community, I may have checked out or used one of your free ones and I sincerely thank you for your time that you spend coding these scripts. In my opinion that is what the one time fee is for anyways... Time/Upkeep (if possible). As a consumer of PlayON the only ones I expect to work 99.9% of the time are the ones that PlayON officially supports..

So don't buy it.. It has adult if requested. But what do you know..Unless you take the time to maintain something how do you know what it's worth. Easy to say any script is worth nothing when you don't see what goes on behind the scene.
Stick to cable for a monthly cost..I would sooner have a script with one working link than 10 alternate links that never work. By all means go make and maintain one and you will quickly see it's NOT a set it and forget it.
Link any script no one has a gun to your head forcing you to buy something. After all playon is just a medium to access the content on another device. You can always go to websites where the scripts pull from for free. It's a convenience to use it elsewhere that's what people pay for.

hello and i will have to add to this . sorry that people such as myself are charging a few pennies for the scripts but keep in mind that it is saving you hundreds of dollars a year to not have to pay for cable . and i will also say that there really is alot that goes into putting a script together .
just to make sure its all working right you have to try it on several devices check and re check and the upkeep is alot of work too .
we have normal lives i personally have 3 kids of my own and people are very demanding about my channel is not working .
we all are people and if you don't want to pay for something then don't . but don't cry about all the money that we are saving you too .

(Trying to create a page 3) LOL Let me see, I have probably spent less than $25.00 since 2009 for scripts where I was paying $120 PER MONTH for satellite. HMMMM........ Maybe I should go back to cable or satellite since this whole script thing is draining my wallet!
